That's right, Joanna was originally going to be named "Charley" but Joanna ultimately changed it to the more sexy and right sounding "Purdey"- also the name of a shotgun.
Here's a selection from that original 1976 shoot, by Terry O'Neill, from when she was officially cast, before her image changed to the blonde bob. This is surely the sexiest shoot Joanna Lumley has ever done, emphasising how the character was going to originally wear stockings and suspenders all the time in the series. If only, thought there were some fine standouts occasionally showcasing her superb legs...
